Churches on-the-Hill
Food Bank We invite you to bring non perishable food items to the church and leave them in the box in the Atrium (Heath Street door). The Food Bank especially needs canned stew, chunky soup, meat, fruit, peanut butter and crackers. |
The Churches on-the-Hill (COTH) "Churches on-the-Hill" is what the nine churches in the Yonge and St. Clair area of Toronto call themselves when they work together on projects such as the Churches on-the-Hill Food Bank and other outreach projects to aid the local and wider community. The nine churches hold occasional ecumenical worship services, most notably an annual Advent Service and a Good Friday Walk. The Food Bank sponsored by the Churches on-the-Hill is located at the Timothy Eaton Memorial Church and is open: The nine congregations in the Churches on-the-Hill fellowship are:

The program supplies food to individuals and families who have housing but whose income is not enough to make ends meet. There continues to be a constant need for canned goods such as soup, canned fruit, tins of meat, beans, pasta sauce, canned pasta, etc. There is also a need for egg cartons and plastic bags. Every two weeks fresh eggs are delivered from the Daily Bread Foodbank. Unfortunately, the eggs come in flats and they need to be packed. If you have any egg cartons (all sizes) please leave them in the foodbank box in the Atrium. We are always in need of plastic bags, all sizes. Thank you.
Volunteer! Assist with applications, stock shelves, and distribute food. For information on volunteer opportunities, call Timothy Eaton Memorial Church at 416-925-8494. [link »] Churches on-the-Hill Food Bank is in need of 500 ml or 1 litre plastic bottles to repackage liquid detergent given to their clients. Please leave the bottles in the Food Bank/Rummage box in the Atrium. Thank you also to those who are leaving non-perishable food items – it helps to keep the shelves stocked. The Churches on-the-Hill Food Bank depends on your continued support and has an ongoing need for non-perishable food items. These may be left in the Atrium in the box marked "food bank". |

Churches on-the-Hill SUPPORTIVE & AFFORDABLE HOUSING
|
Last October Michael Bryant was visited by Peter Holmes, chair of the COTH clergy group; Paul McGrath, chair of the COTH Food Bank; and, Baruch Frydman-Kohl, Rabbi at Beth Tzedec Synagogue. This meeting was a follow up of a meeting the year before by representatives of the four Anglican parishes in St. Paul’s riding who made Mr. Bryant aware of the concern that Anglicans in his riding had about the lack of affordable and supportive housing.
Mr. Bryant emphasized at both meetings the importance of individuals communicating their concerns for priorities to their elected officials. To respond to his reply the Diocesan Housing Sub-Committee is circulating a petition (non-partisan) that will be presented to the elected officials requesting that funds for affordable and supportive housing be a priority consideration in the 2007 budget. A copy of the petition is at both the Tower Door and the Yonge Street entrance. I invite you to sign the petition to voice your support. There will be a copy available in the Atrium during the week. Also available is a copy of a background document from the Housing Group. - Judith Kidd Visit the Diocese of Toronto Social Justice Concerns website here » | ||

Good Friday Walk A simple cross - some brief prayers - a common journey. The nine churches on the hill joined together April 10, 2009 in our observance of Good Friday. We stopped briefly at each church, sang a hymn and offered prayers. Since our churches are spread out, there were two routes which converged for a final service and refreshments.
