Spirituality of Art

"What I like/don't like, or what I want hanging in my living room, are no longer the only ways I assess the value of art. And while I still admire technical skill, I have little patience for a show of skill that has no soul. What I want from art now is depth, I want it, like conversation and like life itself, to go beyond the superficial. And, like good conversation and life itself, I want art that has the potential to transform." - Lois Huey-Heck, from the introduction.

Change of Seasons - Vision Statement

To create images of the change of seasons is most challenging for me as an artist. Even the most mundane landscape when covered by a blanket of snow can become a visual winter wonderland. It may seem that such beauty is a mere coincidence but we fail to realize is that this was the result of the master's hand that created this phenomenal image before us. We as artists can only do an impression of the real work of art that is in front of us. Mel DelijaThe autumn season is my favorite time to paint. When the green foliage becomes the colour of a rainbow. It is a breathtaking vision. Truly a gift from above. Spring and summer are the least favorite seasons to paint but none the less they still offer enough intrigue and challenge to paint for any artist. - MD

Mel is a graduate of Central Technical School's art course as well as The Ontario College of Art. After graduating from college Mel worked mainly in commercial art. Today Mel divides his time between painting and teaching art. Mel enjoys painting still life, landscapes on location and figures from live models. Self portrait above right.

The Art Gallery is a part of our Art and Spiritualilty program which strives towards building a wider community. Our Vision statement is: " CCDP is a place where genuine spirituality, like art is open and dynamic .... both are the hope of a world so badly in need of transformation."
