It is widely
acknowledged
that films reveal
the current state
of mind in what
is increasingly
becoming a
global village.

Faith and Film Festival

LIGHTS! CAMERA! PASSION! A series of films selected to entertain, to stimulate thought, and to encourage an exchange of ideas on what it means to be a Christian in today’s world.

Each film is briefly introduced by a moderator. Following the film, there is opportunity for discussion. Kernels Popcorn and cold drinks will be available. Free admission - all are welcome!

FAITH & FILM LAUNCES SEASON 3!

After two successful seasons, we are preparing for Season 3: 2008-09. We invite your suggestions of films. The film does not need to have a specifically religious theme. The idea is to view a film and explore concepts of faith inherent in the story or characters. E-mail your suggestion by May 12 to gcarpenter@thereslifehere.org, or speak to a committee member.

Our Film Festival currently has about 15 sponsors. The cost/sponsorship is $30/person. We invite new sponsors. By way of your offering envelope, you may write a cheque to CCDP and note Faith & Film Festival. The monies are used to pay for the cost of obtaining films and complimentary refreshments served each evening. Consider becoming a new sponsor for the 3rd Season!

Western society is
now defined more
by the image,
the sound, and
the moving picture
than by the written
word, which
defined previous
centuries. It is
common now to
hear “What have
you seen lately?”
more than “What
have you
read lately?”

We have become,
for better or worse,
a visually oriented
society. Because
literature is
no longer the
dominant form of
expression, script
writers, directors,
and actors do more to shape the
culture which we
live in than do the
giants of literature
or philosophy.

Todd Kappelman
Assistant Director of
the Trinity Institute

faith n. 1. reliance or trust in a person or thing. 2. belief in a religious doctrine. 3. a system of religious belief, the Christian faith. 4. a promise, loyalty, sincerity.

Expressions of faith can be readily found in the arts. Music, paintings, frescos and sculptures have, through the centuries, provided numerous examples of faith as seen by the artist. Film is another more contemporary medium in which faith can be expressed. The more obvious examples of faith & film can be seen in such well-known films as The Ten Commandments, The Greatest Story Ever Told, The Sound of Music, and Chariots of Fire.
But faith & film can also be found in more subtle ways in the lives of “everyday” people. The series of six films selected for Faith & Film have been chosen with several objectives: to entertain, to stimulate thought, and to encourage an exchange of ideas on what it means to be a Christian – an exchange of ideas on faith in a non-liturgical setting.
