With guest presenter Dr. Helen Rosemary Meier, Staff Psychiatrist at St. Joseph’s Health Centre, Toronto.

Dr. Meier is also the Director of Psychogeriatric Services, and is a consultant to the Mental Health and Addiction Program. She is Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, a Senior Fellow of Massey College, Toronto, and a guest presenter at national and international consultations on mental health. Dr. Meier has been active on the Elder Abuse Consultation Team for Family Services, Toronto, a Medical Consultant to The Alzheimer Society of Toronto, The 2008 Congress on Women’s Mental Health, and the Canadian Centre for Victims of Torture. She made a significant contribution to a pilot quality assurance study in the Emergency Department at St. Joseph’s Health Centre vis-à-vis alcohol use and depression among the adult population.

Dr. Meier holds memberships in a number of professional associations in Ontario and Canada, including the International Academy of Law and Mental Health.

Dr. Meier will explore the topic of Coping with Life Changes whichinclude roles, functions and relationships in a busy, stress-filled world. She will also discuss the stresses that arise with life transitions and relationship changes. Dr. Meier says that “acceptance through understanding contributes to resilience.” She will also address issues of physical and emotional health, mood disorders and behavioural concerns.

Wednesday, October 29, 2008 7-9 pm

The evening will take the form of presentation and Q/A. The evening will be held in the Arthur Smith Room. Refreshments will be served. All are welcome.
