Holocaust Education Week - November 1-11, 2007
To observe this week, CCDP welcomed guest speaker Dr. Felicia Carmelly on Sunday, October 28 at the 9:15 and 11 am services. Dr. Carmelly was born in 1931 in Romania. At age 10, she was deported to the camps in Transnistria. Not only did she experience the evil of the Nazis, but she encountered the brutalities of Communism. Eventually, she managed to immigrate from Communist Romania to Israel and later came to Canada. Dr. Carmelly is the award-winning author of, Shattered! 50 Years of Silence, History and Voices of the Tragedy in Romania and Transnistria.

An online article about the interfaith dinner at Beth Tzedec Synagogue in Toronto on April 28, 2004: "Rabbi Baruch Frydman-Kohl, in his welcoming speech, remarked that it is usually “the different pursuits to God that drive people apart; but that is not the case tonight." ...
Guest speaker Rabbi Erwin Schild told a story from the Talmud about a blind man who carries a lantern at night not to help him find his way, but to signal to others his need for help. This, he believes, is what religion should be doing today. "The lamp that we carry into the new century, into the new millennium should be the lamp that invites the help of others, that signifies our mutual readiness to accept assistance. We need theological modesty... and we must signify our willingness to accept partnership and companionship." - B'nai Brith Canada website: link » - also article at the Town Crier »
