Did you know? Good Friday is not a civic/statutory holiday France - nor in the US, where schools that close may refer to it as "spring holiday". In the Lutheran tradition, Good Friday was once THE most important day of the church year - more than Chistmas & Easter. Some Christians do not celebrate Good Friday - they hold "Crucifixion" on the same day as the Jewish Passover. More »

Re Good Friday not being a holiday in the U.S. One could also add that it is not a holiday in France.. I believe this is because of the agreement dealing with the separation of Church and State. Perhaps this applies also to the U.S.A., but I don't know. - Joan
